Do you have a hard time bringing your child to First Care Dental because the appointments are just too stressful? If so, our dental team has some tips that might help you and your child have a more positive dental experience.

First, bring your child in to see Dr. Ben Taylor at the right time. It’s recommended to bring your child in for treatment at a time they won’t be grumpy. It’s best to avoid bringing them into our office during their naptime or at a time when they need to eat. For older children, it’s best to not bring them in right after school or extracurricular activities. Usually, kids don’t have the energy to deal with an appointment after these things.

Second, be an example. Your child follows your lead, which is why we suggest that you set a good example for them. If you have an appointment, it’s best that you have your treatment before your child. That way they can see that it’s not so bad in the dental chair and it’s OK to have Dr. Ben Taylor clean and examine the smile.

Third, try not to express any anxious nerves or feelings. Your child can most likely tell when you’re anxious or nervous, so it’s best to leave your anxiety at home. If you are relaxed and comfortable in the dental chair, your child will most likely feel that way when it’s time for their treatment. Also, if your child fails to cooperate, please keep your cool as best as possible. Yelling won’t help the situation and it could even make your child feel negatively about the dental office.
